On the pin
A cream oval framed in gold tone. SCHOOL OF NURSING arches across the top; below it a red rose on a green stem stands beside a gold lamp with an orange flame, and RN 2027 sits along the bottom in navy serif letters.
What it means
The lamp stands for the knowledge and care associated with Florence Nightingale. The rose is less formal: graduates often carry a rose at their pinning ceremony or give one to the person who pins them, so the pair links the graduate's training with the people who saw them through it.
Colors and finish
The cream background is softer than pure white and flatters the gold. The design uses about five enamel colors, and up to 8 are included in the price. Hard enamel and a gold-tone finish make it look like jewelry, which is how many graduates end up wearing it.
