A navy shield with a gold-tone edge and YOUR SCHOOL across the top. A white medallion holds a folded nursing cap with a small navy cross on its band, and a white banner across the lower half reads NURSING.
What it means
Before pinning became the main rite of passage, many schools held a capping ceremony when students moved from the classroom to the wards. Each school had its own cap style, so a cap showed where the wearer had trained. Caps had mostly left hospital uniforms by the 1980s and 1990s, but the image still stands for the profession's history, and for the school's.
Colors and finish
Navy and white keep the pin formal, and the gold-tone edge gives the shield the weight of an official crest. Hard enamel keeps the folds of the cap sharp at 1 inch.
