Caduceus Shield Nursing Pin

A royal blue shield edged in gold tone, with YOUR SCHOOL across the top. A white oval in the middle holds a winged staff with an intertwined serpent in navy and gold, and a white banner across the point of the shield reads NURSING 2027.
What it means
The caduceus, a winged staff with two serpents, belonged to Hermes, the messenger god of Greek myth. It became a medical emblem in the United States after the Army Medical Department adopted it in 1902, and it is now familiar from hospital signs and uniforms. The older medical symbol is the rod of Asclepius, a single serpent on a plain staff, and some faculties prefer it for that reason.
Colors and finish
The royal blue field and gold-tone edge give the shield the look of a school crest. Hard enamel keeps the fine lines of the wings and serpents crisp; at 0.75 inch our artist simplifies the feathers so they do not fill in.
