The five things that set the price
1. Size. Larger pins use more metal and more enamel, and take longer to fill. A 2-inch pin costs a bit over half again as much as a 1-inch pin at the same quantity, and a 3-inch pin about double. Size is measured on the longest side.
2. Quantity. Every order needs its own mold and setup. That fixed cost is shared across all the pins, so the per-pin price falls quickly as quantity rises: about a third lower going from 50 to 100 pieces, and lower again at 200, 300 and 500.
3. Style. Relative to soft enamel at the same size and quantity:
| Style | Price relative to soft enamel |
|---|---|
| Soft enamel | baseline |
| Die struck | about 5% less |
| Printed | about 5% less |
| Hard enamel | about 10% more |
4. Add-ons. Glitter, glow, backstamps, special backs and packaging each add a set amount per pin. Glitter adds $0.22 per color; a velvet gift box adds $3.04. See the full list on our pricing page.
5. What is included. This is where quotes differ most, and it is covered next.
Hidden costs to check on any quote
| Cost | Typical range elsewhere | Included in our price? |
|---|---|---|
| Mold or setup fee | $30 to $150 per design | Yes |
| Extra colors | per color above a set number | up to 8 included |
| Artwork and proof | sometimes charged | Yes, free |
| Shipping | $20 to $80 | Yes |
| Import duties (pins made abroad) | can be 25% or more of the goods value | Yes, to the US, Canada, UK and Australia |
| Rush fee | varies | 15% for rush or 25% for express, only if you choose them |
When comparing, add these up. A quote at $2.50 per pin plus $95 for the mold and $45 for shipping costs more than a delivered $3.20 at 100 pieces.

How to spend less
- Choose the smallest size that still reads clearly.
- Order the quantity you will use within a year, not just the next event; reorders are cheap but a second first order is not.
- Pick one add-on that matters rather than several.
- Use a ready-made design with your text, which keeps artwork simple.

A worked comparison of two quotes
Suppose you need 100 one-inch soft enamel pins and you have two quotes:
- Quote A: $2.40 per pin, plus a $75 mold fee, plus $35 shipping. Pins are made overseas and shipped by express courier with duties billed to you on delivery, about 25% of the $240 goods value.
- Quote B: $3.20 per pin, delivered, with duties included.
Quote A totals $240 + $75 + $35 + about $60 in duties = about $410. Quote B totals $320.00. The lower per-pin price was the more expensive order. This is why we show delivered prices.
When it is worth paying more
- Hard enamel for pins worn daily or given as awards
- A bigger size when the design has detail people need to see
- Locking backs for pins on bags and jackets
- A velvet pouch or gift box when the pin is presented, not just handed out
- A pre-production sample for very large orders where a mistake would be expensive
Cost per person reached
A pin that costs $2.10 and is worn on a backpack for a year is seen by hundreds of people. Compared with printed flyers or one-day event signage, that is an unusually low cost per impression, which is why organizations keep coming back to pins for awareness campaigns and school spirit.
