Pin trading is half the fun of a Cooperstown week. Here is how many pins your team needs, what makes a pin other players want, and when to order so the pins arrive before you travel.

How many pins does your team need?
Count the teams in your week. The usual rule is one pin per player for every other team, plus extras for umpires, park staff and the shops in town that trade. Cooperstown weeks are big, so many teams bring 50 to 100 pins per player; Cooperstown All Star Village, for example, suggests 75 to 100. Dreams Park does not require pins, but according to the park, more than a million change hands there each season, and its official pin trader swaps a park pin for each team's pin.

What makes a Cooperstown pin trade well
- Size: 2 to 2.5 inches. Bigger pins stand out on a trading towel; 1.75 in. is the smallest that still reads well across a table.
- Team name, town, "Cooperstown" and the year. Players collect by town and year, so make all four easy to read.
- A shape that is not a plain circle, such as home plate, a jersey, a baseball or your mascot.
- One standout effect: glitter, glow in the dark, cut-outs or rhinestones. See all trading pin add-ons.
- Bright, contrasting colors. A pin has about a second to catch a trader's eye on a crowded towel.
Your team's super pin
Many teams also bring a small run of a larger or more detailed "super pin" for special trades with coaches, umpires and the best pins from other teams. Order it as a second design on the same quote; 50 pieces is our standard minimum, and smaller runs from 25 can be quoted.
When to order
Most Cooperstown tournaments run from June to August. Work back from your travel date:

Can we put the Dreams Park or All Star Village logo on our pin?
Only with written permission from the park. "Cooperstown" and the year in plain text are fine, and so is your own team logo.
How many pins should each player bring?
At least one for every other team in your week, plus extras for umpires, staff and other trades. Many teams bring 50 to 100 per player.
When should we order?
Approve your proof at least 8 weeks before you travel. Standard orders are delivered within 30 business days of approval, rush orders within 10.
Can each player's pin be different?
Most teams trade one shared team pin. Names or numbers per player are possible as separate versions, each with its own quantity.
