How enamel pin preorders work
You show a design (usually a digital proof or mockup), customers pay in advance, and when the preorder closes you place the order with your manufacturer. Pins arrive a few weeks later and you ship them out.
Setting the goal
Your minimum should cover the full cost of the run: pins, cards, packaging, shipping to customers, platform fees and a margin for spares. Example: 100 pins at 1.25 inches cost $355.00 for 100 pieces; get a quote for your exact quantity before you set the goal.
Timeline
- Get a free proof from your manufacturer, so your mockup matches what will be made.
- Run the preorder for one to three weeks.
- Place the order when it closes. Standard delivery is within 30 business days of proof approval.
- Ship to customers. Tell them the realistic delivery window from the start.
Stretch goals
Unlock extras as more people order: glitter, a second color variant, a backing card, or a bonus pin. Make sure each stretch goal is priced before you announce it.
Communication
Post updates at each stage: order placed, production photos, shipping. Preorder customers are patient when they are informed.
After the preorder
Order a few extra pins for damages and late buyers. Keep the leftover stock for your shop. Learn more in how to sell enamel pins and enamel pins for creators.
Pricing preorder tiers
Offer a single pin at your normal retail price, a set at a small discount, and a limited tier (such as a numbered edition or a variant) for your most enthusiastic supporters. Keep tiers simple: three or four options are easier to fulfill than ten.
