The design
On the pin
A five-pointed royal blue star with a gold-tone edge. A white oval in the center reads NURSE in navy and HERO in red, stacked in bold, slightly condensed capitals.
What it means
The star badge borrows from comic-book heroes and sheriff's badges, which is why it lands well with children and gets a smile from adults. It says lightly what patients and families often say in earnest: that nurses got them through.
Colors and finish
Blue, red and white give it the primary-color look of a superhero emblem. Soft enamel suits the bold shapes, and our artist blunts the tips of the star slightly so they do not catch on scrubs.
