Overdose Awareness Ribbon Pin
The design
On the pin
A ribbon-shaped pin split down the middle, purple on the left and silver gray on the right, edged in gold tone with a white loop center. A navy banner across the tails reads REMEMBER in white.
What it means
International Overdose Awareness Day began in 2001 in Melbourne, Australia, when Sally J. Finn of the Salvation Army handed out silver badges to remember people who had died. Purple was added later, and the purple and silver pair is now worn worldwide to remember those lost and to reduce the stigma that stops people asking for help.
Colors and finish
Purple and silver are the official colors of the day. The silver half is enamel rather than bare metal so that it keeps its color under the gold-tone edge.

When to order
International Overdose Awareness Day is August 31. Vigils and naloxone training events usually happen that evening and through the last week of August, so approve the proof by early July.
Who orders it
Harm reduction programs, recovery community organizations, health departments and families who have lost someone. Our awareness months calendar lists late-summer observances.

More awareness ribbon pins
Can we make the silver half bare metal?
Yes. Leaving it as polished silver-tone metal gives a brighter look; it is the same price.
Do you make pins for families to wear with a name?
Yes. Small runs with individual names are possible as versions, or names can be engraved on the back.
Can I change the wording on the pin?
Yes. Replace the top or bottom text with your organization, campaign or event name.
How many awareness pins should we order?
One per participant or staff member plus 20%. Prices drop at 300, 500 and 1,000 pieces.
How big is a 1-inch pin?
Slightly larger than a US quarter. It is the most common lapel size for service awards. Your proof shows the pin at actual size.
